The State Special Communications Service will again control cyber defense - government decision

The Cabinet of Ministers has adopted a resolution that restores the powers of the State Special Communications Service to carry out supervisory measures in the field of cyber defense, as well as cryptographic and technical protection of information of state bodies and critical information infrastructure facilities.

As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by the State Special Communications Service.

It is noted that these powers were suspended at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. At the same time, in 2024, the number of cyber incidents in the energy sector and the security and defense sector more than doubled.

“The decision adopted by the government will make it possible to respond much more quickly to threats that arise due to increased cyberattacks by the aggressor. The implementation of new powers will contribute to strengthening the country's defense capabilities, protecting personal data, data on’critical infrastructure facilities and military resources, as well as reducing the risk of information leakage that can be used by the aggressor for precision strikes or other destructive actions,” the report says.

The department recalled that state institutions that want to strengthen their cyber defense, can contact the State Cyber Defense Center of the State Special Forces for support and connection to the Vulnerability Detection System (VDS) services.
