It all started two days before the wedding.
We had been preparing for this day for months. The wedding dress was hanging in the dressing room, the veil was waiting carefully packed, and the guest list was buttoned up. My daughter's wedding was supposed to be the event of the year – a perfect day for her, our family and friends. However, fate decided to write a different scenario.
It all started two days before the wedding. I received a call from a friend who lived near Kamil, my daughter's fiancé. Her voice was full of tension: “I have to tell you something” – I saw Kamil with another woman. They seemed very close. These words were like a cold shower. I didn't want to believe it. I couldn't believe it. Kamil was the ideal in my daughter's eyes. How could he do something like that?
I decided to check it out. I didn't sleep that night. Tossing and turning, I wondered if I should say anything to Martyna at all. After all, that wedding meant everything to her. But I knew the truth had to come out.
The next day, early in the morning, I went to Kamil's. When he opened the door, I could see immediately that something was wrong. He avoided my gaze, and his movements were nervous. “We need to talk,” I said firmly.
“What's going on?” he asked, trying to act calm.
„I know about you and that woman– I threw it out straight. „Who is she? And what are you doing behind my daughter's back?”
He tried to deny it for a moment, but his excuses were becoming more and more illogical. Finally he confessed: „It was just a moment of weakness. It meant nothing. I love Martyna. I don't want to lose her.”
I felt anger. How could he be so reckless? Did he really think he could just ignore the betrayal, pretend everything was fine? „If you really love her, you have to tell her the truth– I said. But I could see in his eyes that he wasn't going to do that. He wanted to hide everything, cover it up, let it go.
I couldn't let that happen.
That same evening I sat down with Martyna. She was euphoric – she talked about the decorations, the flowers, how much she was waiting for this day. I looked at her, feeling my heart break. “Martyna, I have to tell you something” I began cautiously.
“Something happened?” she asked, worried.
“This is about Kamil” – I said, trying to hold back the tears. – I found out that… he wasn't loyal to you. He betrayed you.”
Her face paled and her eyes filled with tears. … Kamil couldn't do this to me– she whispered. But when she saw how serious I was, she knew I was telling the truth.
She called him immediately. He tried to defend himself, explain that it was a mistake, that he only loved her. But I saw her heart breaking with every word he said. „I can't marry you,– she finally told him. „I can't build my life on a lie.”
The wedding was called off. The guests were shocked, the gossip spread like wildfire, and Martyna withdrew into herself. For weeks she struggled with the pain, the sense of betrayal and shame. But over time she began to rise. & bdquo;Thank you, Mom,– she said one day. & bdquo; If you hadn't told me, I would have been living in an illusion. Better now than after the wedding.”
That day I understood that the truth, although painful, was the only right choice. I was proud that my daughter had the courage to end something that could have brought her even more suffering.
