The Supreme Court of the United States of America upheld the ban on the Chinese social network for creating and distributing videos and online broadcasts TikTok from January 19, 2025 due to the alleged threat to the country's national security. This was reported by The New York Times on January 17, with reference to the court order, which is at the disposal of the editors.
American officials have repeatedly emphasized that Chinese authorities may be able to manipulate the app's content, use it to spread disinformation, or gain access to sensitive user information through the app's Chinese owner, ByteDance.
According to the passed law, the application will either be sold or banned in the States from January 19.
The decision says that TikTok in the US started working in 2017. Since then, 170 million Americans have registered on the social network.
