According to market experts, Nokia could not withstand the competition from industry giants Apple and Samsung. The company's departure is called the “end of an era” – Finnish phones were among the first in the countries of the former USSR.
The Finnish company HMD Global, which develops and sells Nokia smartphones, has withdrawn them from sale. The phones are no longer available for purchase on the company's website.
If you go to the Nokia smartphone section, you can only see links and images of various variants of the device. When you click on any of them, the status “discontinued” will appear. Smartphones from other HMD brands are available on the site: HMD Key, Arc, Skyline, Fusion, Aura and Pulse.
The relatively new Nokia XR21 model, released in mid-2023, is also unavailable. The same model, but released in 2021, is already sold under the “HMD XR21” brand.
HMD Global has changed the structure of the site to show more relevant new products.
Nokia brand push-button phones, in particular the legendary 3310 model, will be available for purchase. The simple and inexpensive phone was released in 2000, it could last about 11 days on a single charge and is still in demand among consumers.
Nokia is leaving the smartphone market: what is the reason?
Rumors that Nokia is going to leave the phone market have been circulating for several years. Nokia's exit from the smartphone market potentially marks a big change in the industry, but this does not mean that Nokia will disappear as a brand, writes DigitalTrends.
One of the reasons for Nokia's exit from the market was its inability to compete with industry giants Apple and Samsung. The Finnish brand failed to introduce significant innovations into production to compete with the market leaders.
Technology experts consider the company's departure the “end of an era”, because Finnish mobile phones were among the first in the countries of the former USSR.
The company is currently working on a project to launch a cellular network on the Moon. If Nokia leaves the phone market, it will give it more resources to implement other ideas, experts note.
