On January 14, the US Senate Committee on Armed Forces held a hearing on the approval of Pete Hagseth's candidacy for the position of head of the Pentagon. During the event, Hegset commented on a number of issues regarding threats from Russia, issues of aid to Ukraine.

In particular, the nominee for the post of head of the Pentagon indicated that the US should invest in new technologies. Hagseth noted that investment decisions will be approved based on data on experience of use (relevant of technologies – ed.) in the war waged by Putin's Russia in Ukraine.

At the same time, Hegset noted the main task of the Ministry of Defense team:

Deter and prevent wars

– he said.

But Hegset mentioned Ukraine when commenting on the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan.

The nominee for the post of head of the Pentagon accused the administration of current President Joe Biden of showing weakness.

What was unleashed due to the situation in Afghanistan – the attack on October 7, the invasion of Ukraine – the world recognized the weakness that it was…

– said Hegset.
