This was reported by the NATO Joint Air Command on the social network X.

NATO's Joint Air Command notes that such actions are used when an aircraft has an invalid or incorrect flight plan, does not have or loses contact with air traffic control, or is not using a transponder.

The Finnmark region is located in the northernmost part of the Norwegian region of Norr-Norge and borders, in particular, the Murmansk region of the Russian Federation.

The Il-20 is a Soviet electronic intelligence and electronic warfare aircraft.
