Engineers have developed the latest technology for remote aircraft launch

The US military from McConnell Air Force Base has created a new device for remotely starting the auxiliary engine of the KC-46A Pegasus tanker aircraft. The APRUSS (Auxiliary Power Unit Start System) device allows you to reduce the response time to missions, ensuring the readiness of the aircraft before the crew arrives.

According to Captain Timothy Schwanke, the device significantly reduced the time for crews to prepare for flights, eliminating previous shortcomings in the speed of response compared to the KC-135 Stratotanker model. The first tests of APRUSS on the KC-46A were successful, confirming the reliability and effectiveness of the development.

The device works on the principle of a vehicle remote launch, using cellular signals. This allows the system to be activated from anywhere in the United States. The development team from the base's innovation laboratory collaborated with FirePoint Innovation and other companies, receiving $250,000 in funding for continued research and development.

APRUSS is expected to become the standard for the entire KC-46A fleet, increasing the effectiveness of training for real and training missions. The invention is also planned to be commercialized for widespread use by the U.S. Air Force.

The KC-46A Pegasus is a key milestone in the modernization of the U.S. tanker fleet, offering enhanced refueling, cargo, and medical evacuation capabilities for various military units and partners. APRUSS will add new benefits to the functionality of these modern aircraft.
