November 21, 2017 High-mobility airborne troops were renamed Airborne assault troops troops of the Armed Forces, and the color of the berets became burgundy. The date was not chosen by chance – it is the day of arch-strategist Michael, the commander of “God's army”, the patron of the landing forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
With the beginning of the armed conflict in Donbas in 2014 the Ukrainian army decided to abandon the Soviet paraphernalia – the name Airborne Forces. The highly mobile airborne troops were officially renamed the Airborne Assault Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the emblem changed, and the blue berets were replaced with maroon ones.
