How dangerous is the use of non-original charging for a smartphone

How dangerous is it to use a non-original charger for a smartphone

There are many tips on how to properly charge a smartphone. At the same time, many advise using only the “native” charger and the original cable.

“Telegraph” decided to take a closer look at this issue and find out what will actually happen to the gadget if you use non-original accessories. As it turned out, this belief is very beneficial to equipment manufacturers.

What to look for when choosing a third-party charger

Manufacturers recommend using only original accessories and never choosing third-party chargers. This “feature” is very common among owners of Apple equipment.

According to experts, it is quite possible to use non-original accessories. The main rule — they must be real analogues in terms of output current and voltage.

It is worth remembering: the higher the output current, the faster the gadget charges.&nbsp ;At the same time, thanks to modern built-in controllers, the smartphone will never pass more current than it “needs” and will reduce the power at the input.

So, when choosing a third-party charger, be sure to pay attention to the following points:

  • receptacle. If you have a smartphone with a Type-C port, then you need a suitable charger, and under micro USB – micro USB. In this case, it is not recommended to use adapters, because this “additional element” can cause a bad contact and short circuit. And this can lead to a real breakdown of the gadget. In addition, the adapters do not support the “fast charging” mode;
  • maximum current. The nominal value is written on the charger and indicates the maximum current that the charger is capable of providing. Choose either the same or more in value. The main thing — do not overdo it, so focus on the specific recommendations of the smartphone manufacturer;
  • certification. Find out if the accessory has a certification from the manufacturer such as UL/CE/FCC.  Such designations provide the necessary minimum security.
  • fast charging. If you have a gadget with a “fast charging” system, then the standard protocol from the manufacturer may not be supported by third-party accessories. And here it is really recommended to use the original charger of your brand.

Therefore, it can be argued that “non-native” accessories — with the right selection — will work no worse than the original ones. And they won't spoil your gadget.
