Ukrainian books/The Telegraph
The books by Ukrainian writers Oleksandr Mykhed “The Language of War”, Serhiy Plokhiy “Chernobyl Roulette” and Artem Chapai “The Ukraine” were included in the list of the best books of 2024 by the British publication The Telegraph.
This is stated in a message on the publication's website.
Our regular book reviewers, as well as authors of specialized guidebooks, offered their own rating of the best books of the year. Based on these suggestions, the Telegraph's book department has compiled our final ranking of the most important books to read, the publication said.
- Serhiy Plokhi's book “Chernobyl Roulette” took 50th place in the top.
It was published in September 2024 by the American publisher WW Norton & Company and the British publisher Penguin Books and tells about the Russian occupation of the Chernobyl and Zaporizhzhia NPPs. The book will be published in Ukrainian by the publishing house “KSD”.

- Artem Chapai's book “The Ukraine” took 39th place.
It was published by Seven Stories Press in May 2023. It is a collection of 26 stories that “deliberately blur the line between nonfiction and fiction, conveying the essence of a beloved country through its tastes, smells and sounds, its small towns and big cities, its people, their compassion and indifference, simplicity and complexity.” In Ukraine, the book was published by “Publishing House 21” in 2018.

- Olexander Mykhed's book “The Language of War” was in 12th place.
“The Language of War” is an international edition of the non-fiction book “Job's Call Sign”, published by one of the most famous British publishers Penguin Books in 2024. In Ukraine, it was published by the Old Lion Publishing House in 2023.

The best book was recognized as The Eagle and the Hart by British historian Helen Castor. Castor explores the British Middle Ages and the Tudor period. In 2022, she was a member of the Booker Prize jury.
