Turkish “Bayraktar” completed the first tests of the IHA-230 supersonic missile (video)

On November 13, 2024, the Turkish company Baykar announced the successful testing of its new IHA-230 supersonic missile, launched from an unmanned combat aircraft Bayraktar Akinci. During the tests, the UAV launched two IHA-230 missiles, which hit targets at a distance of 155 kilometers. A video review of the tests was published in the X network by the company's press service.

The tests confirmed Bayraktar Akinci's ability to conduct long-range attacks with high precision, strengthening its role in complex military operations.

Characteristics of the IHA-230 missile

IHA-230, developed by Roketsan, is an air-to-ground ballistic missile capable of striking land and sea-based objects at a range of more than 150 kilometers, depending on the height and launch speed.

It is equipped with inertial guidance with support for GNSS satellite guidance technology and a “fire-and-forget” function, which allows it to operate autonomously after release. Its combat radius, which depends on the height and speed at the point of release, allows you to hit various types of targets at a distance, minimizing the impact of the enemy's air defense systems.

The 42-kilogram missile can be equipped with a fragmentation warhead, and as well as an armor-piercing and thermobaric warhead. This allows the missile to effectively hit a wide range of targets — from radars and air defense systems to command posts, light armored vehicles and naval facilities.

In flight, the missile maintains stability thanks to steerable rear fins that stabilize its trajectory and allow it to bypass air defense systems.

The IHA-230 uses a solid-fuel engine that accelerates it to supersonic speeds. This system allows the missile to quickly reach its target, which is critical when striking strategically important objects.

Other Akinci weapons

As the reviewers at Army Recognition noted, Baykar had previously tested other munitions for the Akinci, including the Tolun IIR guided missile. Designed by Aselsan, the Tolun IIR is designed for medium-range strikes and features an infrared targeting system with real-time data transmission capability, allowing operators to monitor target engagement in dynamic conditions.

During recent tests at an altitude of 6 .7 km Tolun IIR hit an armored personnel carrier at the test site in Konya, which confirmed its accuracy and effectiveness for medium-range missions.

Also, Bayraktar Akinci was integrated with the IHA-122 missile — another supersonic ammunition of the company Roketsan. The IHA-122 is equipped with laser and television guidance systems and is designed to hit highly protected targets, such as command centers and air defense complexes.

Thus, the operation of the Bayraktar Akinci in combination with the IHA-230 and other munitions strengthens Turkey's position as one of the leading exporters of drones. And the testing of new ammunition and the further integration of weapons with Bayraktar Akinci provide opportunities for precise strikes on key targets.
