Lithuania consistently denounces international treaties with totalitarian Belarus

On Tuesday, November 12, the Lithuanian Seimas voted to denounce the customs cooperation agreement with Belarus, which was signed almost two decades ago.

This is reported by LRT.

93 deputies voted for the proposal, two abstained.

According to the Lithuanian Ministry of Finance, which prepared the proposal, the customs authorities of Lithuania and Belarus have not cooperated or exchanged information since the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine in February 2022, so it is advisable to denounce the document.

As noted by the department, trade and economic cooperation with Belarus has been completely terminated and is impossible. Moreover, persons trading with Belarus are required to submit documents issued by their customs authorities to Lithuanian customs authorities and courts as evidence of the legality of their trade and compliance with international sanctions.

The agreement was signed in Vilnius in July 1996 and ratified by the governments of both countries in 2000.

Recall that in early October, Lithuania denounced three international agreements with Russia and Belarus concerning economic cooperation.

In June, Lithuania denounced the agreement with Russia on legal assistance. In April, Estonia terminated a similar agreement with the Russian Federation.
