Solar panels have found a new use: what they can do besides generate energy

In China, a design was presented in which solar panels play the role of a waterproof canopy for cars.

Chinese GoodWe has developed a new canopy for private households with integrated Polaris PV panels that not only generates energy for the home, but also protects cars. pv magazine writes about it.

It is reported that the new canopy is available in two versions. The first version with a capacity of 4.8 KW and dimensions of 6500×3000 mm is designed to accommodate one car. Two cars can fit under the second canopy with dimensions of 6500×5200 mm and 8 KW panels.

The height of both structures is adjustable from 2000 mm to 2500 mm. Frames are made of solid aluminum alloy. Thanks to this, the structure is light and easy to install.

According to the manufacturer, the canopy is waterproof and suitable for various residential areas and slopes. Thanks to its wind resistance of up to 240 km/h, it can withstand even severe weather conditions such as cyclones.

The canopies are also reported to be equipped with Polaris panels, which have an energy conversion efficiency of 21.5% and an output power of 215 W/m2. Their dimensions are 2,142 mm x 1,160 mm x 29.6 mm, and the weight — 30 kg.

“The introduction of this new solar carport represents a significant advance in the field of residential solar solutions that combine functionality, efficiency and style,” — said a representative of GoodWe.
