>>/"Kinotron Group"

The “Kinotron Group” team digitized 200 unique filmstrips with films from the first years of Independence, found in the National Cinematheque of Ukraine. In total, starting in 2021, the team discovered and began cataloging more than eleven thousand films.

The first digitized tapes can be found on the specially created page of the video archive of the National Cinematheque of Ukraine.

The films are planned to be shown at international film festivals and other public screenings. They can also be viewed in the video archive on the website of the “National Cinematheque of Ukraine”.

Among the digitized films:

  • A series about artists of the Ukrainian avant-garde
  • Almanacs dedicated to of the history of Ukraine
  • Documentary film about the history of the Crimean Tatars
  • Newsreel
  • The film “Guardians of Independence” about the Russian occupation policy towards Crimea.

Several thousand undigitized films are stored in the archives of the Cinematheque. Some of the films we digitized were forgotten or lost, because in the 1990s Ukrainian cinematography was going through difficult times, says Lyuba Knorozok, the producer of the project.

The project was organized with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.

Film films were digitized in Ukraine/”Group Kinotron”

Let us remind you that in the early 1990s, two studios were founded on the basis of “Kyivnaukfilm”: “Ukrainimafilm” and “National Cinematheque of Ukraine”. In the late 1990s, film production practically stopped, and soon the film studio was on the verge of bankruptcy. The films were stored on the territory of the “National Cinematheque”.

“Kinotron Group” began work on the project in 2021. At that time, more than 11,000 pieces of film were found in the film archive.
