Germany built the first Leopard 2 for the Bundeswehr with the Trophy protection system

The European company KNDS presented to the public for the first time the Leopard 2A7A1 tank intended for the needs of the Bundeswehr. This is reported by Hartpunkt.

The German military will use the combat vehicle for complex tests. The Bundeswehr plans to operate a small batch of Leopard 2A7A1s so that tankers can gain experience with the Trophy system.

The latter is an Israeli active protection system for armored vehicles developed by Rafael and IAI. The complex received radars that should track enemy ammunition, after which anti-missiles are fired at them.

The system is actively used by the Israelis themselves. Analysts recorded many cases when the Trophy destroyed anti-tank missiles fired at Israeli tanks of the “Merkava” type. such tanks, on which the system did not work for unknown reasons.

Be that as it may, the installation of the Trophy system is a big step forward for the Bundeswehr, which faces systematic difficulties (in particular, lack of funding) all the last years.
