SpaceX and PayPal founder Elon Musk has been in regular contact with Russian dictator Putin since late 2022, after the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

As reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing several current and former US, European and Russian officials, Elon Musk and Vladimir Putin's conversations touch on personal topics, business and geopolitical tensions.

According to the publication, at a certain point, the Kremlin dictator asked Elon Musk not to activate the Starlink satellite internet service over Taiwan, which is provided by SpaceX.

This would be seen as a favor to Chinese leader Xi Jinping, two sources claim.

As journalists noted, Putin's contacts with Musk are causing concern due to possible threats to national security among some members of the current administration due to the Russian dictator's role as one of the main opponents of the United States.

Elon Musk has deep business ties with the American military and intelligence agencies, so he has the opportunity to monitor some of the most secret US space programs.

In 2021, SpaceX won a secret contract worth $1.8 billion. It is the main launcher for rockets of the US Department of Defense and the US government agency NASA.

During the election campaign of US presidential candidate Donald Trump, Elon Musk said that he has access to classified government information. According to him, it is allegedly very boring.

According to the publication, information about Musk's contacts with Putin is likely a secret that is not disclosed by the government. According to several White House officials, they were unaware of this.

At the same time, one of the sources notes that the United States of America is in a dilemma due to a certain dependence on the technology of the founder of SpaceX.

However, Elon Musk himself considers the criticism against him absurd, claiming that his companies have allegedly done more to undermine Russia than anyone else.

In October 2022, Elon Musk noted that he had spoken with the Russian dictator only once. He noted that they allegedly talked about space in April 2021.
