The sci-fi series The Rift is back: Watch the teaser trailer for the second season

After a long hiatus, caused in part by the Hollywood strikes last year, the hit sci-fi thriller The Rift returns for a second season on Apple TV+ on January 17.

The streaming service released a teaser trailer that doesn't give away much information, but packs enough intrigue and confusion to keep fans on edge.

As you may recall, The Gap focuses on a group of people who undergo brain surgery to completely separate their working and non-working memories. Four employees of Lumon Industries (their office nicknames are “innies”) eventually put a kind of escape plan into action. They find a way to blur the lines between the two sets of memories, and three of them learn about their “off-duty” lives in the world-shattering finale of the first season.

Apple says that in season two, “Mark and his friends will learn the dire consequences of taking the rift barrier lightly, leading them further down the path of grief.” The teaser shows a panicked Mark S. (Adam Scott) returning to Lumon Industries and running through the oppressive corridors of the building.

Just like the previous teaser, sound clips from the first season are included alongside the visual effects , which make you think, in particular, the disturbing watermelon version of the chairman Irving (John Turturro).

Mark stops in his tracks when he enters the office and meets three new colleagues, not his regular employees. In a moment, supervisor Milchick (Tramell Tillman) appears to welcome the former employee back, carrying a bunch of balloons with Mark's face on them. You might think it's the scariest return-to-work policy on the planet.

The teaser is a good first look at the new season. While the excellent season one finale gave the team and viewers some much-needed and truly shocking answers, this clip raises important new questions. It's likely that we'll have to endure a lot of suspense in the 10-episode second season before we get more clarity on what's going on in this quirky workplace.
