The new “killer” of tanks: the Turkish Pars Alpha 8×8 tank received two anti-tank missiles with a radius of 4 km

A new

At the SAHA 2024 exhibition, the Turkish defense company FNSS presents the new Pars Alpha 8×8 armored personnel carrier, which was presented in February 2024 at the World Defense Salon in Riyadh. The Pars Alpha 8×8 is the latest iteration in the Pars family from FNSS following the Pars IV 8×8. Designed to meet the needs of mechanized infantry, the Pars Alpha 8×8 is designed to provide superior mobility, survivability and operational performance, integrating advanced technologies to improve situational awareness and crew protection.

Equipped with a hydropneumatic suspension system that allows for height adjustment, the Pars Alpha 8×8 can negotiate trenches up to 2.4 meters wide, overcome obstacles up to 0.8 meters high and wade through water up to 1.2 meters deep. Its all-axle steering system provides a turning radius of less than 7.8 meters, which is particularly useful in confined spaces such as urban environments. The durability of the car was demonstrated by thorough tests in which it covered more than 5,000 kilometers of off-road and highway. Its low failure rate and reduced logistical burden make it a reliable asset on the battlefield.

The Pars Alpha 8×8 meets STANAG 4569 standards for ballistic protection, mine resistance and IED protection, although the exact levels of protection remain classified. Similar to a growing number of military vehicles, placing the power plant at the front increases resistance to threats and maximizes crew safety. Additional protection is provided by such systems as the automatic fire extinguishing system, the CBRN system of protection with excess pressure and 12 smoke grenade launchers. Acoustic detection systems and additional active protection systems are also available.

One of the key features of the Pars Alpha is the integration of the TEBER-II 30/40 Remotely Controlled Turret (RCTC) developed by FNSS. The turret is equipped with a 30 mm automatic twin-barreled gun, which can be upgraded to a 40 mm barrel by changing individual components. In addition to the main armament, the tower includes a 7.62-mm twin machine gun and the ability to place two ready-to-fire anti-tank missiles with a range of more than 4 kilometers. The two-axis stabilization system of the tower with an electric drive allows you to hit several targets at the same time, even while moving.

FNSS designed the vehicle to support various turret systems, including 35 mm, 90 mm and 105 mm guns, as well as anti-aircraft and anti-tank systems. This flexibility is supported by its spacious interior that allows for multiple layout options, as well as integrated situational awareness systems that include 360-degree cameras and day and night vision screens.

Thanks to the 711 horsepower diesel engine, the car's power-to-weight ratio exceeds 21 horsepower per ton, allowing the Pars Alpha 8×8 to reach a top speed of over 115 km/h and a range of over 800 kilometers. The fully automatic six-speed gearbox and two-speed transfer case support both high and low speed with a controlled speed of less than 5 km/h. The length of the car is less than 7.8 meters, the width – 3.1 meters, height – 2.4 meters in cruising mode, which can be reduced to 2.2 meters for transport.

Pars Alpha 8×8 accommodates 12 personnel, including the driver, commander, gunner and crew of the vehicle. The commander and driver are located side by side, having the advantage of a 180&deg+ field of view in real time. 360-degree situational awareness systems that include day and night cameras aimed at minimizing blind spots.

In addition, FNSS Pars Alpha 8×8 includes standard combat equipment such as battlefield management system, driver inspection and VHF/UHF communication system. The vehicle meets MIL STD 1275 and MIL STD 461 military equipment standards, and an auxiliary power unit (APU) is available as an option. The modular design allows for different configurations based on user requirements, including roles such as command posts, engineering vehicles, or platforms for larger caliber weapons and missile launchers.
