Forbes called the “highlight” of the Skynex air defense system useful for Ukraine

Forbes named the "highlight" of the Skynex air defense system useful for Ukraine

The German Skynex anti-aircraft artillery systems from Rheinmetall, which are short-range air defense systems, will be useful for Ukraine, in particular, because they have an open architecture – the Ukrainian side will be able to integrate its own technological achievements into them, ensuring the effectiveness of the systems in conditions of changing dynamics on the battlefield.

The open architecture allows Skynex to easily integrate with other sensors and air defense platforms, and “this feature is especially useful for Ukraine given the dynamic nature of the conflict and Russia's constant adaptation of its weapons to increase resistance to air defense systems,” writes Forbes.

“…this allows Ukraine to use the capabilities of its domestic defense industry, which is growing and has achieved significant success in the field of military technology. Open architecture contributes to the rapid implementation of these innovations, allowing new sensors, radars, targeting systems, missiles or anti-drone systems to be integrated into the Skynex platform,” the material emphasizes.

According to journalists, thanks to the open architecture, the integration time of new “chips” can be reduced from several years to several months:

“Oerlikon, a subsidiary of Rheinmetall, has developed the Skynex air defense system as an advanced modular short-range air defense platform to combat short-range air threats, including drones, helicopters and low-flying guided missiles.”
