Technical characteristics of the secret American kamikaze drones received by the Armed Forces

AEVEX Aerospace has revealed details about the Phoenix Ghost family of drones that were transferred to Ukraine for use against Russian invaders. These kamikaze drones, developed for the US Air Force, include three models: Dominator, Disruptor and Atlas, informs The War Zone.

Information about the characteristics of the drones was previously classified, but at the Association of the US Army Symposium in Washington confirmed that Phoenix Ghost — it is a series of drones with different sizes and ranges. Project Phoenix Ghost was started even before the full-scale Russian invasion, and its development was led by a special group of the US Air Force known as Big Safari.

AEVEX constantly improves drones, adapting them to modern combat conditions. Drones are equipped with autonomous navigation systems that allow them to operate without GPS, track targets and make precision strikes.

Phoenix Ghost also includes electronic warfare and surveillance capabilities. They have electro-optical and infrared sensors that improve their navigation and resistance to obstacles. In the modification for Ukraine, the drones received a new color to reduce visibility at night.

The US has already transferred about 1,800 Phoenix Ghost drones to Ukraine at a cost of $576 million, but the specific models that were sent remain unknown. AEVEX continues to modernize these drones, in particular improving their ability to counter GPS jamming, which is critical in the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
