The two Dune films have managed to leave their mark on audiences in recent years, as well as on the world of the 7th art and science fiction. Master Villeneuve spoke about the future of Dune in cinema

The literary work of fiction written by Frank Herbert and published in 1965 has long been considered unadaptable and David Lynch's adaptation released in 1984 seemed to confirm this assumption. The critical and public success of the films Dune: Part 1 in 2021 and Dune: Part 2in 2024, directed by Denis Villeneuve, were a nice surprise. We have here a production with great attention to detail, intelligent writing that manages to transport its viewer despite the complexity of the universe with a real mastery of narration, special effects that enhance the already aesthetic grandiose of the work and finally a science fiction saga in cinema worthy of the genre and which renews it.

In the wake of the first film, HBO announced a series Dune: Prophecy, set 10,000 years before the events of Dune and produced by Denis Villeneuve. The filmmaker also announced his intention to bring the second novel to the cinema. However, Denis Villeneuve announced that he was going to direct another science fiction film before this third installment in the Frank Herbert universe, before recently giving an interview to our colleagues at Deadline where he talks about the future of the saga:

I thought that after Dune: Part II, I would take a break, go back to the woods and stay in the forest for a while to recharge my batteries. But the company of trees doesn't really suit me and I'll be back behind the camera sooner than I thought. That's all I can say.

The director confirmed that he had started writing the feature film and whispered “2026” when the journalist from Deadline asked him on the start of filming for the third installment of Dune. Excellent news that seems to confirm the advancement of the film Dune Messiah in the Warner calendar and therefore an earlier return than expected for Paul Atréides.

Tell us in the comments section if you are waiting for this sequel to the Dune saga as well as the Dune: Prophecy series and don't miss out on discovering this actress who could have taken part in the Arrakis adventure.
