Goku and the Z Fighters have finally made their big return to our screens with Dragon Ball Daima. Launched on October 11, 2024, this new anime offers an original story imagined by the creator of Dragon Ball, namely the late Akira Toriyama.

Taking place just after the events of the Majin Boo Saga, we discover how the protagonists were shrunk by Gomah, the new king of the Demon Kingdom who succeeded Dabra. Determined to regain their original size, Goku and his friends will have to venture into this new world, marking the beginning of a new adventure for the Saiyans and their loved ones.

A new anime that not only allows us to revisit the iconic characters of Dragon Ball, but also to learn more about the universe imagined by Toriyama. And after the revelation of episode 1 which contradicted this scene from Dragon Ball Super, episode 2 of Dragon Ball Daimareleased this week also allowed us to discover a little more about the famous Dragon Balls and how they work.

As a reminder, the Dragon Balls are a central element of the story, and have been since the beginning of the work. There are several kinds, like the Dragon Balls of Earth or those of the planet Namek. Daimaalso revealed that they were also present in the Demon Realm. When the seven crystal balls of Earth are gathered together, it can summon the magical dragon Shenron.

Originally, Shenron could only grant one wish. But after Dende became the new God of Earth, The young Namekian enhanced the Dragon Balls' abilities so that Shenron could grant three wishes, much like Polunga on Namek.

However, Episode 2 revealed that the three wishes granted by Shenron were not actually available to everyone. Indeed, when Gomah asked him to shrink Goku and his friends, Shenron bowed out, which surprised the new king of demons who thought he still had two more wishes.

This is when the dragon will reveal that this is “a bonus for regulars”. He then explains that “strangers for whom it is the first time only have one”, just before disappearing. Bad news for Gomah, who wanted to take advantage of it to get his hands on the mysterious “Third Eye of Evil”.

Daima also confirms that the Dragon Balls of Earth are useless without Dende's presence, and that is why Gomah will take the young Namek with him to the Demon Realm, in order not only to prevent the Z Fighters from using the crystal balls, but also to use him as a hostage if necessary.

There is a lot to bet that the sequel to Daima will reveal even more about the lore of Dragon Ball, especially with the introduction of Neva, a legendary Namek who seems closely linked to the creation of the famous crystal balls.

And to continue on the same theme, discover these little-known facts about the Kaios and Shinjis in Dragon Ball.
