Tesla has released an update to its Optimus humanoid robot that makes it more autonomous. They were previously an important part of the Cybercab presentation, but it turned out that they were operated by human operators.
A new video posted on Tesla Optimus' X (Twitter) account shows off the robot's new skills.
As the company notes, all new skills are learned by a single neural network, which also works in real time on the built-in Optimus computer.
This is what Elon Musk's humanoid robot has learned:
- Now it can independently explore previously unseen rooms.
- The robot can independently find the nearest charging station and connect to it using rear cameras.
- Optimus can lift relatively heavy loads, such as an 11-kilogram battery tray.
- Together, several bots can create a shared understanding of their environment .
- Optimus has learned to walk up stairs and provide various items upon request
- Now he can interact with people using artificial intelligence.
- The last point is especially interesting, given the recent presentation of the Cybercab autonomous taxi. It featured Tesla robots mingling with the crowd, serving drinks and playing games with guests, as well as dancing in a gazebo and even being able to talk.
However, it quickly became clear that the robots “relied on teleoperations (human intervention)”. However, Tesla did not particularly try to convince anyone that the Optimus robots act independently.

In one of the videos from the presentation, the robot jokingly replied to a visitor that “maybe a little “. Otherwise, Optimus confirmed that he is not fully autonomous and said that “today I have a human helping me”.
