A new way to replace generators is expected to help improve floating wind farm projects around the world.
< p>Cobra Wind International, LiftOff and Kincardine Dragados SA (owned by Vestas) have completed a generator replacement on the Kincardine Floating Wind Farm in Scotland without towing the rig to port, a new foray into turbine maintenance. OffshoreWIND writes about it.

The Vestas turbine was also temporarily fitted with a GenHook tower crane supplied by Dutch company LiftOff.
After Vestas prepared the wind turbine and decommissioned the old one, LifOff lifted it from the nacelle and lowered it onto the deck of the floating vessel from where it had been then moved to OSV. Using the same technique, the variable generator was then moved to a floating device and lifted into the nacelle using a GenHook crane.
According to Vestas CEO Thor Abel, this method will help improve floating wind farm projects around the world.
