A man arrested outside Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's rally in California on Saturday has been charged with violating gun laws, authorities said on Sunday, October 13, Reuters reports.
He was found in possession of a handgun and a shotgun, as well as a high-capacity magazine.
Riverside County Sheriff's deputies arrested a 49-year-old Las Vegas man in a black SUV and took him into custody without incident, the Sheriff's Office said.
The Sheriff's Office said the man arrested, identified as Vem Miller, has been charged with possession of a loaded firearm and possession of a large-capacity magazine.
The suspect pulled up to the outer security perimeter, showing a pass to enter the VIP and press areas, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco said. But as he approached the inner perimeter, his vehicle was subjected to a more thorough search. Bianco said a deputy noted that the vehicle was in disarray and that the license plates were clearly counterfeit.

“The incident did not impact the safety of former President Trump or attendees,” the sheriff's office said.
In July, Trump survived an assassination attempt when a gunman's bullet grazed his ear at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. In September, another man was charged with attempting to kill Trump after Secret Service agents found him hiding with a rifle near Trump's Palm Beach golf course. He pleaded not guilty.
Trump's rally on Saturday was held in the Coachella Valley, known for its annual music and arts festival.
“It's quite possible that my deputies thwarted a third assassination attempt,” Bianco said.
Miller was released on $5,000 bail on Saturday, according to jail records. He could not be reached for comment.
After assassination attempts on the Republican candidate, US President Joe Biden has instructed his administration to protect Donald Trump as if he were the sitting president.
