And while it's been less than a week since The Wild Robot was released in theaters here, it seems that a sequel is already planned according to Deadline. In any case, this is what Sanders confirmed this weekend, stating that there were indeed “plans for a second film”.

The Wild Robot is adapted from the eponymous novel by Peter Brown. Here is the short synopsis of the animated film offered by Universal Pictures:

DreamWorks Animation exclusively presents the adaptation of the #1 New York Times Best Seller graphic novel by literary phenomenon Peter Brown: THE WILD ROBOT.

THE WILD ROBOT follows the incredible journey of a robot – ROZZUM Unit 7134 aka “Roz” – who is shipwrecked on a deserted island and must learn to adapt to a hostile environment by slowly building relationships with the island’s animals. He ends up adopting a goose chick, a gosling, who ends up orphaned.

This powerful story is centered on self-discovery, a fascinating observation of the bridges that connect nature and technology while sensitively exploring what it means to be in the world and connected to life in all its forms.
