NATO to begin training to deter nuclear war

The alliance will begin its annual nuclear exercises next week, Reuters reports.

NATO officials said about 60 aircraft from 13 countries, including F-35A fighters and B-52 bombers, would take part in the Steadfast Noon exercises in Belgium and the Netherlands.

“In an unstable world, it is vital that we test and strengthen our defences so that our adversaries know that NATO is ready and able to respond to any threat,” NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said.

The military exercises will begin on October 14 and will last about two weeks. They will be concentrated in the UK, the North Sea, as well as Belgium and the Netherlands.

At the same time, official representatives of the Alliance emphasized that these exercises are not a response to any recent statements from Moscow and that they have been held annually for more than a decade.
