What else is known

This fact is primarily due to the fact that SK Hynix produces more advanced HBM chips, which are used in flagship computing accelerators for AI and neural network needs. In particular, they are actively bought by NVIDIA, and SK Hynix is the largest supplier of “green”. The company is known to supply 8-layer HBM3e chips to NVIDIA since early spring 2024 and recently started production of 12-layer HBM3e chips. Samsung's products are currently only being tested by NVIDIA.

According to journalists, the share of HBM memory in SK Hynix's revenue from memory chips is already approaching 30%, and will grow further in the future. Previously, the media reported that all the key manufacturers of DRAM chips (which are SK Hynix, Samsung and Micron) are reorienting part of their capacities to the production of HBM or launching additional production lines, since such chips are sold several times more expensive than DDR5 chips.
