Mass screen problems detected in iMac with Apple M1 chips

Owners of iMac computers with Apple M1 chips began to complain massively about problems with the screens.

The device was released in May 2021, and the first discussions of this problem appeared on the official website of the Cupertino community in October 2023. There are currently 17 pages of feedback from users who have encountered the defect.

The Apple M1-based iMac model may have a design flaw. Complaints are received about malfunctions of the display, due to which dark horizontal stripes appear.

Some users report that Apple service centers call this malfunction irreversible, offering a screen replacement as the only solution. However, since most iMacs experience this problem after two years, the warranty on the device has already expired, and the screen replacement will cost $600-700.

Despite numerous reports, the manufacturer has not yet recognized this defect as a manufacturing defect and has not released any official comments or solutions to fix the problem.

One user discovered that the iMac screen uses a flexible cable rated for 50V at high screen brightness. Eventually, this causes the connector to overheat, causing short circuits and black bars. Even after replacing the screen, the problem may reappear after a year or two.
