USA are testing combat AI robodogs in the Middle East

The US military has begun testing robotic “dogs” equipped with weapons with elements of artificial intelligence at a military facility in Saudi Arabia. This is reported by Military.com and NDTV with reference to photos released by the Pentagon's Visual Information Dissemination Service (DVIDS).

The tests are taking place at the Red Sands Integrated Experiment Center as part of anti-drone exercises. The four-legged robot, pictured, is equipped with a rotating turret with a weapon similar to an AR-15/M16 rifle.

A representative of the US Army Central Command confirmed that the “armed” robot dog was one of several “non-missile unmanned aerial systems devices”, tested together with 15 platforms to combat UAVs. According to him, the weapon successfully hit several static ground targets.

The Pentagon is actively experimenting with installing weapon systems on the robodog. The Marine Corps has already tested four-legged robots with the SENTRY remote weapon system and the M72 LAW anti-tank missile launcher. The Army is also considering equipping the mechanized “dogs” with the new 6.8mm XM7 rifle.
