Turkish military-industrial company Roketsan shared a video of a test of its own ALKA laser weapon system (DEWS), which was conducted in late December 2024.
“During the test firings, ALKA targeted and destroyed air and ground threats located at different distances. The system demonstrated its advantages against targets,” Roketsan writes on X (Twitter).
In particular, it is said that this system was able to destroy both a regular FPV drone and a fixed-wing UAV in the air. And on the ground – an improvised explosive device and something else interesting. Defense Express reports that this laser was able to “burn through” 10 mm of dynamic protection. At the same time, experts emphasize that in this case it is not worth talking about “standard” capabilities – this is just a demonstration of potential. In the future, modernization and improvement of the system is possible.
Work on this laser system was carried out for more than ten years, it is assumed that since the 2010s. It was first presented at the IDEF exhibition in 2019.
“The main armament of ALKA is a laser station that can shoot down drones at a range of up to 1 km, the complex also has an option to suppress drones at a range of up to 4 km. The system's power is 50 kW,” the material says.
