The Israeli military said Sunday, Sept. 29, that another senior Hezbollah leader had been killed in an airstrike.

Nabil Kaouk, deputy head of Hezbollah's Central Council, was killed on Saturday, Sept. 28, the military said, the Associated Press reported.

Several senior Hezbollah commanders have been killed in Israeli strikes in recent weeks, including the group's leader Hassan Nasrallah and other founding members.

Hundreds of Hezbollah members have also been injured in explosions on pagers and walkie-talkies used by group members.

Israel has stepped up its military operations against Hezbollah militants in Lebanon with a wave of airstrikes. Israeli airstrikes have killed at least 1,030 people in the past two weeks, according to Lebanon's Health Ministry.

Hezbollah continues to fire rockets and shells into northern Israel, but most are intercepted or fall in open areas, causing few casualties and scattered damage.

Kaouk was a Hezbollah veteran from the 1980s and served as Hezbollah's military commander in southern Lebanon during the 2006 war with Israel. He frequently appeared in local media commenting on politics and security developments. The US imposed sanctions on it in 2020.

Israel says it intends to return about 60,000 of its citizens to settlements in the north of the country that were evacuated almost a year ago. "Hezbollah" said it would stop rocket attacks only if there was a ceasefire in Gaza.
