Volkswagen produces its own ketchup, and everyone can win a bottle of the sauce

Did you know that Volkswagen makes ketchup? We didn't know either. But we knew Volkswagen made sausages because it's a relatively well-known fact in the motoring community that VW sells almost as many of its famous curry sausages as it makes cars.

However, VW also produces seasoning for them. For a very limited time, the automaker is bringing its Gewürz Ketchup to the United States, reports The Drive.

If you've been to VW's headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany, chances are you already know about Gewürz ketchup. Many North American enthusiasts bring bottles of it back to the States as souvenirs or gifts for other VW fans. However, there is one American fan you can thank for VW finally importing its ketchup on this side of the Atlantic: Jamie Orr.

For VW's 75th anniversary in America the brand is highlighting the stories of its fans, and Orr's story particularly attracted the attention of the Germans. A lifelong VW fan, Orr opened his own car show in Pottstown, Pennsylvania to highlight VW cars and his unique designs. The trophies he handed out to the winners of the show were bottles of VW Gewürz Ketchup in a glass cylinder, with a spring that sat in the narrow place. Thanks to Orr's story, even more American VW fans will be able to taste their favorite brand's ketchup.

Volkswagen is offering its ketchup in America for a limited time only, or while supplies last, but he did not specify a time limit. So if you want one, you'd better order now. Quantities are limited to one bottle per family, and you will have to wait about two weeks as the ketchup is shipped from Germany.

Luckily, it costs nothing, as both the ketchup and shipping are free. If you want to try it before you order, Volkswagen is bringing Gewürz Ketchup to the ChainFest food festival in Los Angeles on October 5.

For now, Volkswagen won't sell you a GTI with a manual transmission, the regular Golf or even ID.4 in America. But at least he will give us ketchup.
