Technical characteristics of the British RFDEW microwave installation, which destroys enemy UAVs, have been revealed

In 2026, the British Armed Forces will receive a new means of combating unmanned aerial vehicles — complex RFDEW (Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapon). Defense Express writes about this.

The latest complex uses microwaves to neutralize drones. It will be the first of its kind in the military, ahead of the DragonFire laser system, which is planned for deployment in 2027.

The RFDEW system uses microwaves to destroy all UAVs in the area of operation – this makes it more effective than&nbsp laser systems that destroy targets one by one. In addition, microwaves are less dependent on weather conditions than lasers.

And however, military analysts note, laser complexes such as DragonFire have greater functionality, as they are able to hit not only drones, but also  cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, artillery shells and other samples of "smart weapons".
