Lebanon pager blast death toll rises

Another person has died in Lebanon after being injured in a wave of pager blasts.

The death toll in the pager blasts has risen to nine, according to Lebanon's Health Ministry. The death toll remains at around 2,750, Reuters reports.

The pager blasts occurred in the south of the country, in the southern suburbs of Beirut known as Dahiyeh and in the eastern Bekaa Valley, areas that are Hezbollah strongholds.

The Israel Defense Forces declined to comment on the blasts. Hezbollah confirmed that at least two of its fighters and a little girl were among the dead.

The UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, expressed concern over the incident, calling it “an extremely worrying escalation.” in the conflict.

The United States said it had nothing to do with the explosions and did not know who was responsible for the incident.
