New Ukrainian Foreign Minister Asks Poland for MiG-29 Fighters

Ukraine needs Polish MiG-29 fighters.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga stated this during a discussion within the framework of the XX meeting of the Yalta European Strategy (YES) in Kyiv, Interfax-Ukraine writes.

At the same time, Sybiga noted that in order for Polish MiG-29s to replenish the fleet of military aviation of Ukraine, the assistance of partners is needed in the issue of air patrols over Poland.

“We have a clear understanding of what our partners have and what solutions are needed for this. I am very glad that Radyk Sikorski (the head of the Polish MFA, – ed.) is here with us. Specifically, we need the MiGs that you have. And in order to be able to supply the MiGs, it is necessary to increase the capabilities, in particular, of the EU, for patrolling the airspace over Poland,” the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.

In addition, Sybiga noted the importance of supporting Ukraine in the energy sector on the eve of a difficult winter.

“The decisions that will be made today will help us minimize possible risks,” the diplomat said.

The head of the MFA also said that Ukraine expects important decisions during the Polish presidency of the EU from January 1, 2025.

“We very much hope that our partners will adhere to the logic of opening negotiating clusters in parallel, and not one after another. Exactly in parallel. We are very much counting on the support of our EU allies,” the minister said.

The day before, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that Poland had transferred about 400 tanks to Ukraine and was considering the possibility of transferring MiG-29 aircraft.
