Over the past month, a hacker has hacked more than 15 accounts on the social network X through phishing and used them to promote fraudulent schemes with meme tokens. This was reported by on-chain researcher ZachXBT.
Among the victims — accounts of the streaming platform Kick, the artificial intelligence project Cursor, the co-founder of the World project Alex Blaney and many other well-known companies.
The hacker sent fake copyright infringement notices on behalf of the X administration to force users to go to a phishing site. In this way, the attacker gained access to passwords and two-factor authentication. Having seized control of the accounts, the crypto fraudster published an announcement about the release of meme tokens, adding links to fraudulent smart contracts to collect investments.
In total, the fraudulent scheme brought the attacker about $ 500 000. The funds received were laundered through the Solana SOL $189.63 and Ethereum ETH $3,373.76 .
To avoid similar attacks in the future, ZachXBT recommends using different email addresses for registration on platforms and additionally protecting accounts.
