As Goniec reports, Telewizja Polska once again received significant support from the state budget.

Another financial support for Polish Television. The sky-high amount is surprising

The public broadcaster signed an annex to the September agreement with the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, which resulted in the transfer of another amount to its account.

Huge subsidy in 2023

W This year, TVP's account has already received a total of PLN 265.217.240. Wirtualnemedia.pl reports that the subsidy related to the implementation of the public mission amounted to PLN 220 million in February, PLN 480 million in April, PLN 320 million in July, PLN 90 million in September, and PLN 539.8 million in October. The total subsidy balance is therefore almost PLN 1.9 billion.

The latest transfer of PLN 120.3 million is another step towards supporting TVP's operations. It is worth noting that in the last year of the PiS government, the public broadcaster received a record PLN 2.67 billion from the RTV subscription fee and subscription compensation.

Costs of implementing the public mission in TVP

This year, the costs of implementing the public mission in Telewizja Polska amount to PLN 3.54 billion, which is a significant reduction compared to the previously forecast amount of PLN 4.1 billion. This change raises questions about the future of public media in Poland.

Funding problems

In January, the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) decided to freeze funds from the RTV license fee, which were then deposited in court. In practice, this meant that these funds only reached regional stations that had completed the appeal process in the courts. During this time, public broadcasters were forced to support themselves mainly from advertising and subsidies, which significantly affected their operations.

Subscription fee compensation stagnates

Moreover, subscription fee compensation, following President Andrzej Duda's veto of the budget-related bill, cannot be paid at present. This year, the National Broadcasting Council has transferred only PLN 620 million in subscription revenues to public media companies, which took place in the context of difficult conditions, such as floods.
