Apple will move production of AirPods to another country: why it will help detect fakes

Apple will start production of AirPods headphones in India early next year, Bloomberg reports. Assembly will start at the local Foxconn enterprise in the first quarter of 2025.

What else is known

Sources say that the factory is already producing AirPods in test mode. Moreover, the supplier intends to quickly increase volumes after the start of production. Note that so far only new iPhones are being assembled in India. According to Bloomberg, Apple smartphone exports from this country have grown by a third in 6 months.

Most of the AirPods that will be assembled in India next year will also be exported to other markets. How is this news useful to us? Now it has become quite difficult to recognize fake headphones on marketplaces, as Chinese craftsmen have learned to produce devices that are as identical in appearance as possible.

Indian AirPods will be distinguished by inscriptions (assembly region, number, languages) on the packaging and special seals. It is unlikely that the Chinese will start counterfeiting them when it is easier for them to continue producing “standard” AirPods with the Made in China marking.
