Vice Prime Minister for Innovation, Development of Education, Science and Technology – Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov told how to connect Wi-Fi in the event of a power outage. According to him, if you switch to xPON, Wi-Fi will be able to work even without electricity.
Mykhailo Fedorov explained: “Home Internet can work from different networks, but only energy-saving ones will continue to work during a power outage. If your provider has switched to xPON, connect the router and ONU device to a power bank and you will have normal Internet.”
According to the minister, an easy way to check the availability of xPON technology in your home is to use the Internet map during a power outage, which was released a year ago together with “MIS Misto”. If your home does not have xPON, then try to find it in the nearest house where it is already installed.
Mykhailo Fedorov also noted that there is no universal solution for mobile Internet such as xPON. However, he noted that he is working with operators to ensure communication during a power outage, and this requires active participation from users.
Recall that the Ministry of Digital Affairs launched a project that talks about the first steps to take during a power outage. Three issues have already been published on why mobile communication does not work, how the base station affects the quality of communication, and how to set up national roaming.
