German Helsing supplies kamikaze drones to Ukraine: what is known about them

The Munich company Helsing announced the supply of the latest HX-2 kamikaze drones to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Der Standard reports. These drones are equipped with artificial intelligence, have high speed, a significant flight range and the ability to operate as part of a swarm.

Main characteristics of the HX-2 drone

The HX-2 has an X-shaped wing design and weighs about 12 kg. Its multi-purpose warhead effectively hits both armored vehicles and fortifications.

  • Maximum speed: 220 km/h (twice as fast as Russian Lancet and American Switchblade 600).
  • Flight range: 100 km (much more than competitors with a range of 40 km).

How the HX-2 drone uses AI

«The use of artificial intelligence makes the drone resistant to electronic warfare and destructive measures». Official statement of Helsing&amp ;nbsp;

Thanks to artificial intelligence, drones are able to avoid radio-electronic interference. Even if the signal is blocked in the last meters of the attack, the drone completes the mission by itself, processing the target data autonomously.

Altra software allows you to combine HX-2 drones into swarms controlled by a single operator.

HX-2 is designed for mass production, which allows to significantly reduce the cost of one drone. The exact price of the system is not disclosed, but the company assures that this solution is much more economical than similar drones on the market.

When HX-2 drones will appear in Ukraine

It is expected that the first batch of drones will be delivered to Ukraine already in December. In total, the delivery of 4,000 HX-2 units, developed on the basis of the experience of the war in Ukraine, is planned.
