With the development of virtual, augmented and mixed reality in the last couple of years, Google decided to take on the old and introduced the new Android XR platform. In fact, this is a whole ecosystem that includes augmented reality headsets and glasses.
What is known about Android XR
Google says that this initiative will be more ambitious than the company's previous projects, such as Google Glass and Daydream. But the most interesting – cooperation with Samsung and Qualcomm.
Android XR will use Gemini AI capabilities to provide a natural user experience. Thanks to voice control and multimodal interfaces, the technology adapts to user requests, gradually expanding functionality. The first devices within this ecosystem will appear in 2025. Among them – Project Moohan, a headset from Samsung in the style of Apple Vision Pro.
The company is actively working to attract developers, offering APIs, emulators and tools for creating applications. Unity has already announced full support for Android XR, which opens up a lot of possibilities for game and content creators. Google is also adapting its own services, such as Chrome, Maps and YouTube, to work in the XR environment.
It seems that the main goal of Google for the coming years – creation of a complex ecosystem that will unite devices of different categories, starting with virtual reality headsets and ending with glasses and accessories for augmented reality.
