President Andrzej Duda made a slip-up during the official ceremony at Notre Dame.
As the “Super Express” portal recalls, Andrzej Duda took part in the grand opening of the Notre Dame Cathedral. The president made a spectacular slip-up along the way. It was all because of the gesture he made towards Brigitte Macron, the wife of the French president. Experts have no doubts that President Duda broke international protocol in this way. What exactly happened?
President Andrzej Duda made a mistake
President Andrzej Duda was one of the guests at the reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral, which was rebuilt after a dramatic fire that occurred five years ago. The event was also attended by Prince William and President-elect Donald Trump.
The ceremony attracted the attention of experts from around the world, who analyzed every minute. The cameras also caught the Polish president's blunder, when he kissed her hand while greeting Brigitte Macron.
As “Super Express” notes, although in Poland this gesture is still treated as an expression of respect, in international diplomacy it is perceived as tactlessness. Aleksandra Pakuła, an etiquette expert, has left Andrzej Duda slammed.
Presidential gesture under fire
“In business and diplomatic situations, you should never kiss a woman in hand” – said the expert in an interview with the “Plotek” portal. The expert emphasized that meetings at such a level require professionalism and compliance with the applicable protocol.
Pakuła pointed out that similar blunders have happened to many other Polish politicians. As she lists, the same type of mistake was made by the current Prime Minister Donald Tusk and former Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński. Many people still remember how Jarosław Kaczyński accidentally kissed Radosław Sikorski's hand.
And what do you think about it?
