On December 3, 2024, the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) issued a warning regarding the pump.fun platform. The regulator said that the project provided services in the field of virtual assets without a license.
In the message, the agency asks UK citizens to refrain from using the site and warns of the risk of fraud. In addition, the regulator said that users using pump.fun services cannot count on consumer protection.
Some time after the warning was published, local customers lost access to the platform. According to them, at first users simply could not connect to the online resources of pump.fun. After some time, the site began issuing a special message for people trying to access the platform from the territory of the United Kingdom.
«Our system has determined that you are in the United Kingdom. In accordance with the laws and regulations of this country, the site is temporarily unavailable to users from the United Kingdom,», — the message states.
In addition, the message states that users who have deposited any funds on the platform have the right to return them. To do this, customers need to follow the link specified in the message.
It should be noted that on the social network X (formerly Twitter), some users have shared their successful experience using VPN services to bypass the block.
Since its launch, the pump.fun platform has generated over $290 million in revenue, according to information from the Dune portal. At the same time, over the past 30 days this figure has exceeded $112 million.
Previously, the project came under a barrage of criticism due to numerous complaints about the content broadcast by memecoin creators on the platform. These include threats of violence against children, animal cruelty, sex scenes, and more. As a result, the developers decided to temporarily disable the broadcast function.
