PrivatBank told you how to avoid losing money at ATMs

The state-owned “PrivatBank” told how to protect yourself from losing money when making transactions at ATMs. Clients of various financial institutions complain about similar situations.

This is stated on the portal “Minfin”, where you can talk to bank representatives.

The problem of bank clients losing money at ATMs

As noted in one of the appeals, a woman in Odessa wanted to withdraw money from a PrivatBank ATM from a card of another bank, but the device did not issue the funds.

“Today I went to withdraw money from a PrivatBank ATM at 7:00 PM, the money was debited, but the ATM did not issue it. I called the hotline, spoke to a bot, who told me: since it's a card from another bank – contact them. How is this – Privat did not issue the money, but contact Pivdenny. Why will my children now be waiting for PrivatBank to process everything, how is this! Now my children will be hungry or what, where should I contact!” — the message says.

PrivatBank's response

A representative of PrivatBank apologized for the inconvenience caused by the ATM operation and emphasized that the bank operates within the established rules.

According to him, the financial institution operates according to the norms of the International Payment System. Therefore, you need to contact the bank that issued the card, as they will be able to:

  • identify the person as the cardholder;
  • apply for a refund;
  • in case of confirmation of the fact of failure — return the funds within the established period.

“This procedure for appealing transactions is regulated by the International Payment System. We, in turn, always make every effort to process the application as soon as it arrives to us and provide a response to the Bank that issued your card”, — explained in PrivatBank.

As noted on the bank's portal, ATMs are cashed at least once a week, but the refund procedure can take much longer.

In the event of non-issuance of funds, banks make applications to PrivatBank according to instructions and regulations. In terms of duration, this will take from 5-30 days or more. Since each case requires analysis, the terms of refunding money may vary, but no later than 180 days.

Knowing a few rules will help reduce the risks of losing money at an ATM:

  • it is worth not using unfamiliar ATMs;
  • it is better to choose an ATM of the financial institution that issued the card;
  • in winter, do not withdraw money from an ATM on the street, it is better to do it at a bank branch;
  • do not withdraw large amounts of money at one time times.

There are also risks of losing your card at an ATM, so to prevent this from happening, you can use the “cardless” cash withdrawal service.
