The American Film Academy has invited 397 new members. If they become members of the Academy, their total number will reach 10,665. At the same time, 9,665 members will have the right to vote in choosing the winners of the 95th Academy Awards, which will be held on March 12, 2023. Variety reports this.
Among the invitees: Billie Eilish, Anya Taylor-Joy (Varyag), Katrina Balfe (Belfast), Jamie Dornan (Belfast), Ariana DeBos (West Side Story), Troy Kotsura (“CODA: Child of Deaf Parents”), Jessie Buckley (“The Strange Daughter”), Jesse Plemonsa and Cody Smith-McPhee (“The Power of the Dog”)
From the industry, Disney executives are among the invitees Dana Walden, Gina Pence, Apple TV+ Awards Lead (hosted the Oscars CODA: Child of Deaf Parents), Head of Awards Marketing and PR Debra Birnbaum (Amazon), Focus Features Executive Vice President of Advertising Stephanie Phillips and US Head of Ads for Netflix Michelle Slavic.
New invitees include 71 award nominees and 15 winners.
In 2022, Academy membership was 44% female, 37 % representatives of different ethnic and racial groups, and 50% – from 53 countries of other countries, and not from the USA.
