Sometimes really special cars can turn up at auctions. But it's very rare that one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers has a car for sale. However, the auction house Sotheby's was lucky enough to put up for sale this Mercedes-Benz 300 SL roadster by five-time Formula 1 champion Juan Manuel Fangio.
The desire of motorsport fans to have at least something related to the history of racing is very strong – people buy and sell bricks from Indy Speedway at auctions, and for a special caste of fans, other, more expensive things are put up for auction. This time auction house RM Sotheby`s put up for sale a Mercedes-Benz 300SL convertible that once belonged to Formula 1 legend Juan Manuel Fangio.
Since 1958, the convertible has traveled only 72,951 kilometers – it is reported that the athlete used it mainly on European roads, and then took it to Argentina, where the car has been in recent years. Ultimately, the model was exhibited in a museum in Balkars. It is noted that the car has been preserved in the original, as Fangio left it.
It is worth saying that the auction for this lot will be closed, while the auction house does not even publish the initial cost of the car. RM Sotheby`s does not intend to publish the final price of the lot.
