A fuel tanker overturned in northern Nigeria on Tuesday evening, October 15, after the driver lost control of the vehicle. The leaking petrol exploded, killing at least 147 people, police and emergency services said, Reuters reported.
It is one of the deadliest incidents to hit the African country in recent memory.
Local police spokesman Lawan Shiisu Adam said the car was about 530 kilometres (330 miles) north of the capital Abuja when the driver lost control. The vehicle overturned and fuel spilled.

Many roads in Nigeria are in poor condition, leading to accidents that claim dozens of lives every year.
Last month, at least 48 people were killed in northeastern Nigeria when a tanker truck exploded after colliding with another truck carrying people and livestock, setting other vehicles on fire.
